Hello, 1/1/11!

01Jan11

Last night was probably one of the loveliest New Years’ Eves I can remember.  After a family photo and a relaxed dinner out, we spent the evening at church – fellowshipping, singing Baptist hymns, praying, and celebrating the Lord’s Supper as the calendar changed.  Very poignant.  We welcomed 2011 by singing “Jesus, What a Friend for Sinners!”  I can’t think of a better way to start the year…

Like last year, it seems the Lord has given me several theme verses for 2011.  I can’t wait to see what He’ll do with these!

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  (Joshua 1:8-9)

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…”  (Proverbs 1:7a)

“…learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.”  (Isaiah 1:17)

“The righteous shall live by faith.”  (Romans 1:17b)

I’m looking forward to reading through my Bible on a different plan this year – one that will have me reading 10 chapters a day!  And rather than the more formal lists/goals of years past, here are just a few things I hope 2011 may hold:

  1. Work.
  2. Raising support.
  3. A vision trip.
  4. Friends.
  5. Family.
  6. Sabbath (aka vacation).
  7. Prefield training.
  8. Going.
  9. Language School.
  10. Acculturation.

If I were writing my own story, these are the things I’d like to do this year. :-)  But I’m not writing my story, so we’ll see how it goes!  In terms of habits and doing things, in 2011 I’d like to read more, study God’s Word more, pray more, fast more, memorize more, run more, spend more time with family and friends, and live more in the moment.  (That’ll all be so easy, right?!)  In any event, I can’t wait to see what God has in store!

Happy New Year!  Next year… who knows where?!
