“Keep Your Mouth Shut”

07Oct10

In 12 hours I’ll be on a plane bound for South Africa.

Wow.

I’m excited to be going with one of my sisters and three other young people from my church!  The five of us will be serving at the 3rd Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization and will be gone nearly three weeks.  It’s an incredible privilege to be able to take part in the congress!  Over 4,000 delegates will be representing the church in every nation on earth, and we as stewards have the opportunity to get to know these brothers and sisters as we serve them.

There are, of course, lots of details involved in a trip like this.  A 15-hour plane ride, for one.  Financial support.  Prayer support.  Team building.  Fun stuff.  Work. :-)  But I think the most important thing I can do while in Cape Town is keep my mouth shut.  That’s been the advice given to the 400 American delegates – “Keep your mouth shut.”  Just listen.  Learn.  Be encouraged.  As Americans, we often think we have this whole Christianity/Discipleship thing figured out.  But… we really don’t.  So I am REALLY looking forward to learning from those who are on the front lines of the Story Jesus is writing today.  I can’t wait to see how the Lord will use this congress for His glory!

Given time and a decent internet connection while overseas, I hope to update (perhaps even with pictures!) both this blog and our team blog.  You can also follow what’s going on via Twitter (@capetown2010) or the Lausanne GlobalLink.

Please be praying for me and the rest of the team as we travel, serve, and encounter God at work!

Lausanne: The whole church taking the whole Gospel to the whole world.  Soli Deo Gloria!
