June is over!!

30Jun10

What (like WHAT) a month!  I really need to process two big things – SMI and Dr. Ryken’s transition to Wheaton, but for now, here’s the basic end-of-month wrap-up.  The original goals are posted here.

  1. Working on Deuteronomy and Matthew and finished Proverbs, Jonah, Hosea, Amos, Micah, II Timothy, Titus, and Philemon.
  2. 100 hours of prayer works.  Part of that is knowing what I’m going to pray/fast for (have my July “topic”!) and part is just making the time to pray – very seriously – about something.
  3. Fasting focuses my praying like nothing else!!  Planning to begin joining a few friends in “Fridays for Philly” – fasting all or part of Friday for the city of Philadelphia – in July.
  4. Reading was not high on my priority list this month.
  5. Romans 8. :-)  But after this month, I won’t ever be able to recite it without crying.
  6. Yay for the SMI runners!  We ran every morning the first week – and then decided sleep was more important than running the second week.  So the guys won the bet…  (boo!).  But today I got new running shoes – so watch out!!
  7. Enjoyed singing a lot with guitars during SMI – so remembered why I put learning to play on the list in the first place.  I have six months left in the year to actually begin learning, though…
  8. So two weeks in North Philly changed me… It didn’t change where I’m headed (long-term), but it did make me start thinking about what I’m doing in the interim.  Pray for me as I wrestle with this during July…
  9. Learned a whole lot during SMI – about myself, about community, about loving others, about what I really really love in life…  Also learning that there’s a whole lot more gray out there than I ever expected to find – not quite sure what God is calling me to do with that knowledge right now (see #8).
  10. Yeah, yeah, so I keep getting these goals to relate to North Philly.  Seriously, people, it changed me.  So while I didn’t have time to go through my closet (which is really just a crawl-space under the roof), I have big plans for July.  Purge!

To finish things out this month… Here’s what we put on the back of our SMI Philly 2010 t-shirts.  Love how the Bible is so good at summing things up. :-)

I heard a voice thunder from the Throne:

“Look! Look!

God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women!

They’re his people, he’s their God. He’ll wipe every tear from their eyes.

Death is gone for good—tears gone, crying gone, pain gone—all the first order of things gone.”

The Enthroned continued,

Look! I’m making everything new.

Write it all down—each word dependable and accurate.”

Revelation 21:3-5, The Message

He’s making everything new!!!  How exciting is that?!!!!  (Interesting, isn’t it, that Revelation 21:5 was one of my theme verses for 2010?!)

One Response to “June is over!!”
